Introducing Private AI at DrupalCon Atlanta

Introducing Private AI at DrupalCon Atlanta

At amazee.io, we always look forward to Drupal events. In fact, we plan our year around them. The ‘Cons, ‘Camps, and ‘Jams provide the ideal opportunity for us to reconnect with our friends and colleagues in the Drupal community, share knowledge, and immerse ourselves in the world of Drupal and open source. DrupalCon Atlanta, which took place in late March 2025, was no exception. This year, we weren’t just there to soak it all in; we had something important to share with the Drupal community. If someone were to ask what made DrupalCon Atlanta so important to amazee.io, we could provide a typical polished corporate response - something about strategic initiatives and market positioning. But actually, the truth is far more compelling.

The team at amazee.io, alongside Jamie Abrahams, Co-founder and Director of FreelyGive, while surrounded by the innovators and influencers of the Drupal community, took the opportunity to announce the latest evolution of amazee.io’s open source AI for Drupal CMS + AI.

An Unexpected Journey into Drupal AI

It all began with curiosity, conversations, and a shared vision of making Drupal more accessible. What started as a simple idea has since evolved beyond what we ever anticipated—a collaboration with Drupal AI solutions provider FreelyGive enables us to bring enterprise-grade Drupal AI to the open source world.

This isn’t something that was meticulously planned years in advance but rather an organic result of our fearlessly open source approach and our commitment to the Drupal community. As a hosting provider, we've always believed in making complex application operations simple and secure. At present, particular challenges are involved with integrating AI onto your Drupal site. There are a whole host of different modules and approaches to choose from, as well as data privacy and security considerations. The amazee.ai provider enables users to harness the power of the Drupal AI framework without the privacy trade-offs. It is also open source from top to bottom, which means users have complete visibility over the code and what is happening on their site. We’ve configured everything so users can rest assured that their data is private and won’t be used to train AI models. They can choose their region to ensure their data remains within their preferred jurisdiction. The amazee.ai provider includes LLM, embeddings, and vector databases.

The Power of Collaboration

The magic of amazee.ai comes from our close relationship with the Drupal community. FreelyGive brought their deep understanding of Drupal's AI ecosystem, and we contributed our infrastructure and hosting expertise. In doing this, we didn’t just combine technical capabilities; we created something more significant than the sum of its parts.

Unleashing AI at DrupalCon Atlanta

With all of this in the works, we couldn’t wait to share it with the world. And where better than at DrupalCon Atlanta, one of the most important and highly anticipated Drupal events of the year?

On Monday, March 24th, 10 members of the amazee.io team touched down in Atlanta for four days of Drupal insights, demos, sessions, conversations, and collaborations.

At the amazee.io booth, the action kicked off on Day 1 with a live demo from Jamie Abrahams. During the demo, he explained how AI-powered hosting is set to revolutionize the digital landscape. Jamie showcased to the rapt crowd how amazee.io and FreelyGive have simplified the behind-the-scenes AI process, making it more accessible to developers than ever before.

Day 2 delivered more exciting AI discussions. Jesus Manuel Olivas from Octahedroid explored how Drupal’s AI evolution complements the Decoupled Drupal approach, also sharing his insights and perspectives on private AI in the modern Drupal economy.

Then, on Day 3, amazee.io Founder and General Manager Michael Schmid took the floor for his lighting talk, “Building a Website in 5 Minutes with Drupal AI.” Michael demonstrated how AI tools can dramatically accelerate site-building by bringing a website from concept to reality in minutes.

This is a mere snapshot of the various talks, demonstrations, and conversations that took place across the four-day event. The amazee.io booth was a hotbed of activity, insightful discussion, and knowledge sharing, all fueled by a shared passion for the future of Drupal and AI.

Atlanta saw the release of a number of major AI news and releases both in Drupal and outside. We found that Claude's code can now create whole modules that now live on drupal.org, saving hundreds of hours. The rest of the API for agents, MCP, got fully supported and released and will make integration close to zero extra work. We unleashed the new AI agent swarm framework into Drupal to make it easier than ever to build your agent workflows with no code.

2023 was the year of AI theory, 2024 was the year of the proof of concept, and 2025 is the year it's finally happening. Come and securely do it with Drupal using amazee.io’s new AI provider.

Now and in the Future

To celebrate the launch of amazee.ai at DrupalCon Atlanta and support community innovation, we're providing the Drupal community with free AI tokens and a free trial experience of Drupal CMS + AI. We're eager to see what the community creates when given the tools and freedom to experiment with this technology. Users can benefit from an almost instant setup, and we’ve preconfigured everything to work seamlessly.

While our current focus is on Drupal, our AI vision extends further. We're not stopping at the first good idea. We're building a foundation for a technology-agnostic AI infrastructure solution serving diverse application ecosystems. This will be completely open source, ensuring complete transparency of the development processes and security practices, enabling users to inspect the software. Additionally, with no vendor lock-in, users will have the freedom to switch service providers at any time or modify the software to make it compatible with other systems.

Our goal is to give users choice, flexibility, and transparency, and to bring the same level of security, control, and seamless experience to organizations regardless of their technology stack. We believe this will become an essential layer in the modern data ecosystem, and this is just the beginning.
